The abiding vision I had before starting this video was Mary Antoinette smoking a cigarette outside a greasy chipper. I think perhaps more than any other vignette in this video, that image most vividly communicates the central conceit - the dichotomy between our childlike expectations for ourselves, and the grim economic reality of a fiscally disenfranchised emerging generation. After all, what are we, if not French queens on an elongated smoke break?
