Cogs & Marvel: Holiday Gifting Experience

Experiential agency Cogs & Marvel were looking for a way to engage new and existing clients alike over the holiday period, ideally delivering a personalised gift that would speak to the agency’s thinking and capabilities. We set out to create an unboxing experience that would inform the recipient about the agency through a tasteful, multi-sensory exploration of the landcapes surrounding Cogs & Marvel’s three international offices.

We partnered with legendary perfumer Mandy Aftel, who has created personal fragrances for the likes of Leonard Cohen and Madonna, to create edible fragrances based on the San Francisco, Dublin, and London landscapes. We worked with veteran mixologist Ian McCarthy to designed custom cocktails that would accompany those fragrances.

Finally, we attempted to cinematically represented the olfactory sensation of both prior elements. In a shoot that crossed continents, we tried to curate a sense of synaesthesia - using one sense to evoke another. Capturing the scent of, for instance, fresh brown bread, or sharp citrus, or turf in a fireplace, was a wonderful cinematographic challenge.
